Identification
A muscular pelagic shark instantly recognisable by its enormous whip-like upper tail lobe — as long as the body itself, used to stun prey. Males may grow slightly longer than females.

Behaviour
A pelagic shark most active at the surface and through the upper 200m but capable of dives to 650m. The signature hunting technique slaps and stuns schooling baitfish before consumption — often visible as bait flying from the water. Most active in 12-28°C (54-82°F) with peak around 23°C (73°F). Generally solitary but aggregates on bait concentrations. Highly mobile, tracking prey schools and temperature fronts across long distances.
