Identification
A compact Atlantic and Mediterranean coastal mackerel-tuna with a thick-shouldered torpedo build engineered for blistering acceleration and bait-school attacks. Males and females reach similar sizes.

Behaviour
A coastal schooling pelagic — the legendary 'false albacore' of the US East Coast fall blitz. Cooperative pack-feeding herds bait into tight balls; explosive surface bust-ups, foam patches, and bird workups mark productive water. Cooler-month migration pushes massive schools tight to shore. Tropical and subtropical year-round; northern range present in warmer months. Peak activity at dawn and dusk in 18-26°C (64-79°F) water.

Spinning
The defining US East Coast fall-blitz approach — Cape Cod, Long Island, Montauk, Outer Banks, Cape Lookout.
